Whoa! Kaiju Big Battel is a modern conflict of epic proportions. Evil villains, menacing alien beasts, and giant, city-crushing monsters threaten to destroy the planet Earth. Who will save the helpless humans from total ruin? The Heroes, of course, and the Heroines too. A few privileged humans also get in on the action, as they try to contain danger within the three-roped arena of Kaiju Big Battel.

London, January 30th, 2004: Yesterday saw the introduction of Sweden's first GM-labelled food product, 'Kenth' beer.Link
At the moment, a Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet, is asking people to vote whether you want to drink this GM beer or not. You can also go to this site and vote
Question: Vill du dricka genmanipulerad?
(Do you want to drink genetically manipulated beer?)
If you do NOT want it, press "Nej", which means "No".
If you want the evil mutant beer, press "Ja", which obviously means "Yes".
Ja mon.

The ImageBase is a searchable image and text database of objects from the collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor).
The collections (110,000+ objects) belong to the people of the City and County of San Francicso. The ImageBase is an expression of the Museum's mission to provide meaningful public access to the collections and behave more like a resource and less like a repository.

I recommend some Robert Bechtle.

From the site:"In the summer of 2002, Steven came up with the idea to do an art experiment by adding bass tracks to 2 White Stripes songs and sharing them with Redd Kross fans via the internet. The overwhelmingly positive response inspired him to cover the entire 'White Blood Cells' record. Word spread quickly over the internet and soon press such as Entertainment Weekly, Pitchfork Media, the NY Times, BB Gun to name but a few ran articles about 'Redd Blood Cells.'"

No. not this.
The Go Game is an all-out urban adventure game, a technology-fueled, reality-based experience that encourages hard play and a keen eye for the weird, the beautiful, or the faintly out-of-the-ordinary. The "rule book" is reality, the "board" is San Francisco, and the "pieces" are the players -- you and your team.
Through clues downloaded to a wireless device and hints planted in unlikely places, you'll be guided through a city you only think you're familiar with. Clues can appear at any time, anywhere. Perhaps you didn't notice the woman on the bus reading a magazine upside-down. Or the note stuck to the side of the bathroom mirror of your favorite bar, or the electric scooter parked outside with your name on it. After a day of Go, you will.

"Hello everyone. Hey! We aren't sponsoring The Stills show nor the Yeah Yeah Yeah's show now! Isn't that sweet?! We lost those shows not only to a complete lack of respect for KEXP but because of big time corporate cash! awesome! We can thank Interscope and Atlantic for not knowing what station champions these artists! Rad! We love them! We can't wait to play more of their artists! Have their rosters in the studio! Play them when no one else will! Because we're suckers who play music because its good then get completely ignored once a band gets added to a commercial station! Kick ass!
Breathe deep John.....sooner or later they'll figure it out....right? RIGHT?!"

No really. This is the WORST website EVER. From a guy who reads the internet once daily, this is the WORST. Chemically castrating sex offenders is an option in some states. Can we neuter these publishers such that they'll never be able to produce eyesores on the web?

A group of the cool photo projects. Now here comes some unscientific yammer.
Meme-
As defined by Richard Dawkins in The Selfish Gene (1976): "a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation." "Examples of memes are tunes, ideas, catch-phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches. Just as genes propagate themselves in the gene pool by leaping from body to body via sperms or eggs, so memes propagate themselves in the meme pool by leaping from brain to brain via a process which, in the broad sense, can be called imitation." In this sense, chain letter components are memes.

Some really cool video game art, done by Jon Haddock
"A series of drawings from an isometric perspective, in the style of a computer game. The subject of each drawing is the image, or images, that created a popular cultural event. Historical events (like the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Lorraine Motel) are used interchangeably with fictionalized events (like the picnic scene from The Sound of Music)."

People are paying for songs on the iTunes Music Store because they think it's a good way to support musicians. But by giving musicians just a few cents from each sale, iTunes destroys a huge opportunity. Instead of creating a system that gets virtually all of fans' money directly to artists-- finally possible with the internet-- iTunes takes a big step backwards. Apple calls iTunes "revolutionary" but really they're just letting record companies force the same exploitive and unfair business model onto a new medium.

Story from Casey via Nicky:
Buoyed by a plentiful supply of Coca-Cola, Wotsits (Cheetos) and Jammie Dodgers (Strawberry Shortbread Cookies),

Gabrielle (six), Ben (six), Holly (seven), Beth (seven), Benjamin (seven) and Sophie (six) - all friends from Rokesly infant school in Crouch End, north London - were willing guinea pigs in our experiment to discover if children could enjoy crusty old rock music.
Eight songs were chosen to represent classic rock's rich tapestry - from the Who's legendary 'Substitute' to Nirvana's vintage grunge masterpiece, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.' As well as gauging their opinions we tested their endurance by allowing them to stop the song when they became bored and posed the all important question: 'is this better than Busted (According to All Music Guide, a teenie pop band that's "an audacious blend of BBMak and Boyzone")?'
